Senior IT EXPERT Oracle - SQL Server - MariaDB DBA / PL-SQL Developer / I nfrastructure Architect


Under contract at EFA a fund administration company in Luxembourg, doing some PL/SQL development, migrating the Irish reglementary reports for go live in June 2025. At Bank de Luxembourg in Luxembourg, I have a pure Oracle DBA role, I oversee migration of old stand-alone databases to the new multitenant architecture introduced in 19c, then I must configure a brand-new environment using ASM + data guard + and a mix of broker / fast-start failover also with multitenant architecture.

At Bank Raiffeisen in Luxembourg, I had a mixed DBA role, working on Oracle, SQL Server and MariaDB. Not only was I working as a DBA for troubleshooting, migrations, performance tuning, I was also involved within big projects at the bank, like the migration of their T24 environment from DB2 to Oracle. And working on a big table partitioning project for another Oracle application, which involved a lot of monitoring. This job at Bank Raiffeisen was very interesting because in addition to working on Oracle and SQL Server, it allowed me to touch another database environment, that of MariaDB. Very interesting and very fascinating.

My responsibilities within Banque Havilland S.A., a private bank offering retails and fund administration to fortunate clients, with headquarters in Luxembourg, were multiple. Firstly, as an Oracle Senior DBA I oversaw daily database administration, mainly looking after backups, database performance tuning, and working closely with developers for PL/SQL support. Then another important part of my Oracle DBA job was liaising with our providers when getting new versions of their software and renewing licenses, or when I was involved in new projects around Oracle databases. And lastly liaising with some departments in the bank when they got some problems, like poor running SQL queries, or problems during the execution of PL/SQL code.

Also, within the bank I worked as an AIX system administrator, getting all my knowledge from tutorials and AIX experts in Luxembourg working closely with us, having both hats Oracle DBA and AIX administrator was the best way for me to better troubleshoot our systems when having some issues.

• My main job as Oracle DBA is to look after all databases from all environments, version 19c mainly on IBM AIX 7.3 and others on Linux.
• I have overseen the migration of few stand-alone databases to the multitenant architecture on Oracle 19c using mainly Korn-Shell.
• I have installed a brand-new environment with a data guard server on ASM, using a broker / observer, a fast-start failover environment on AIX.
• I have written scripts in Korn-Shell to migrate all disks from SAN FS9100 to SAN FS9500 on primary and DR sites.
• I have migrated all export / import scripts, that were using exp and imp, to data pump using option network link, scripts working on AIX and Linux servers, new scripts written in Korn-shell.
• I have built a new restore server that will be used later to prove that databases could be restored at any time in the past and on demands, scripts using RMAN DUPLICATE and written in Korn-shell.
• I am also doing some support for all other databases at the bank, using JIRA as ticketing system.

• My main job as Oracle DBA is to look after all databases from all environments, different versions from 11g R2 to 19c some on IBM AIX 7.2 and others on Linux. • I have installed Oracle 19c on both Linux and AIX, for stand-alone databases and recently I have also installed RAC with Data Guard for a new T24 environment in UAT, all of them using ASM as database storage.
• I have migrated an application from Oracle 12c R2 to Oracle 19c on AIX 7.2 in both UAT and production environments and executed some performance tuning tasks to check that performances wouldn’t go down after migration.
• I have applied every quarter new patch released by Oracle to maintain all the databases from all environments to the highest level of patch, both on AIX and Linux. Usually starting in UAT environment and after a couple of days applying the same patches in pre-production environment. Usually, I let few couple of weeks of testing and then after I apply the patches in production.
• I have also written Shell scripts to execute flash copies of database disks from the data guard production environment to a specific UAT environment.
• I am also doing performance tuning on different applications using OEM 13c and AWR reports to pin-point issues.
• I am executing database refresh using the RMAN DUPLICATE command, usually refreshing non-production databases with production data.
• I have written scripts in Korn-Shell and PL/SQL for better Oracle database monitoring and administration.
• I am also in charge of SQL Server 2016 databases, mainly executing deployments in both UAT and production environments, and doing some DBA jobs like backup / restore, and database monitoring.

• My main job as an Oracle DBA was to look after all databases from all environments, more than 100 of databases on different Oracle versions from 11g R2 to 19c all of them on IBM AIX 7.2, and mainly to check database backups in RMAN, and to look after database performances.
• I implemented a new way to refresh databases from production to test and preproduction environments. For archiving and troubleshooting in case of problem in production.
• I applied every quarter new patch released by Oracle to maintain all the databases from all environments to the highest level of patch. Usually starting in developments environment and after a couple of days applying the same patches in test and preproduction environment. Usually, I let one month of testing and after I apply the patches in production.
• I did work on the upgrade of all our Oracle 11g R2 and 12c R1 databases to Oracle 12c R2 release, using the database upgrade assistant for 12c R2, performing pre and post upgrade tasks manually.
• I started upgrading all the databases to Oracle 19c, using the auto upgrade tool from Oracle.
• I also had the opportunity to supervise a student for 3 months from the University of Nancy that was working as a trainee Oracle DBA from May to July 2018, with realization of scripts in SQL and PL / SQL concerning various domains, audit / security, and archiving of data.
• I was also working as AIX administrator maintaining the 4 AIX servers on which all databases are hosted.
• On the AIX servers, I did apply efix from IBM Website, changing configuration of Volume Groups, Logical Volumes, adding new users.
• I installed and configured Shareplex a tool allowing data transfer between two remote databases, in two different environments, Production and development, and I am 2 monitoring daily the flow of data between Luxembourg and Switzerland.
• I was also in charge of SQL Server 2016 database administration, taking the job from our windows system admins to segregate the roles. Firstly, in charge of reviewing the full SQL Server security, and then for being the source of propositions, for future security to the management.

• I was in mission at BNP Security Services in Kirchberg, Luxembourg, doing performance tuning and troubleshooting with Oracle 11g R2 databases.
• I oversaw the setting up of new security policies for all off-shores Oracle accounts for pre-production and production Found Accounting databases. I had to work closely as a technical leader with teammates in Mumbai, my role was to connect different teams to integrate two new applications developed in India into the BP2S application network.

PRINCIPAL INFRASTRUCTURE ARCHITECT
• My first assignment with eProseed was to migrate big Oracle databases from few gigabytes up to 30 TB, for one client based in the Findel, where the hardware was hosted in Frankfurt (Germany) and the DBA team was in Bangalore (India). I had to install new Oracle software on their new system, and to implement a new way of migration to move TB databases from their old server to the newest one. Then when the project was finished, I had to give a training in English to the DBAs in Bangalore, remote training from Luxembourg, on the new Oracle features used during the migration project.
• I then worked as DBA support at the BCEE, involved in performance tuning, database migration to 12c, and development of scripts in Korn-shell and PL/SQL for database administration and database duplication. I was supporting the BCEE DBA’s when they had some issues with their databases.
• I upgraded Oracle Database Appliance servers at BGL BNP in Luxembourg (from release 12.1.2.5.0 to 12.1.2.7.0), all parts of the appliances (ILOM / BIOS / Infrastructure / Grid / Database home), and all environments, testing, development, and production. At the end I provided to BGL BNP a document on how to upgrade Oracle ODA from A to Z in English.

• And I was involved in some testing with SQL Performance Analyzer at the BGL BNP before migrating their databases the latest Oracle release.
• I worked as DBA first level support at CSC Luxembourg, my tasks included database troubleshooting, Data Guard resynchronization and reconstruction, performance tuning and troubleshooting when some problems were encountered by the employees of CACEIS, I was involved in some meetings with the CACEIS management to find out was what the cause of some performance issues.
• I also setup a POC on Oracle 12c CDB/PDB for internal usage, how to restore a PDB when one tablespace or user has been removed, with full documentation in English.

SENIOR ORACLE DBA AND SUPPORT SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

• My primary job for VBS was to perform day to day database administration (checking tablespaces, datafiles, invalid objects, and so on), set up backup/recovery procedures, and database monitoring using Perl scripts, PL/SQL, SQL, and the Oracle Enterprise Manager GRID interface.
• I installed a brand-new Oracle 11g R2 RAC server on Solaris 11, and with Oracle 11g R2 databases in production and tests, and I performed failover and load balancing tests to check the applications were working correctly like before on the previous environment.
• After having tested the new RAC environment, I was involved in the migration of all VBS databases from Oracle 10g R2 SE to Oracle 11g R2 SE, both stand alone and RAC databases in all environments DEV / UAT / SIT / PROD (more than 30 databases) implementing for each of them ASM as main database storage.
• I acted as a consultant for the development teams on several projects before 3 implementation in test and production, and I made recommendations on Oracle 10g R2 and 11g R2 new features.
• I developed in cooperation with the development teams a new tool in Perl for database refresh based on the Oracle DATAPUMP API, this tool used some specific PL/SQL procedures and functions installed on every database of the company, tool mainly used by the developers.
• I improved the performance of the company portal by tuning the most resource consuming queries, helped in the redesign of the biggest tables by working on a new archiving system based on table partitioning.

ORACLE DBA – SYS ADMIN / DATABASE ARCHITECT ROLE

• As Oracle DBA, I installed, configured, and patched ORACLE 10g R2 on a Bull AIX 5.3 server, Sun Solaris 9 server, and on a Windows 2000 server, these servers were used firstly as a POC for a brand-new software developed within RBC Dexia but independently from the IT of the bank. This software was mainly developed on Mac OS X so I had to administer and support the platform and implement different policies linked to the usage of these computers.
• As AIX administrator I had to configure the Bull AIX server from scratch to be able to install the latest version of Oracle at that time, and I installed and configured different AIX packages.
• As network administrator I oversaw the configuration of all Mac OS X communication in an independent network outside of the bank network and liaising directly with our network provider to configure a CISCO box. I also configured some anti-virus software on all MAC and the firewall to prevent attacks from the outside world.
• I performed day to day database administration (checking tablespaces, datafiles, invalid objects, and so on), set up backup/recovery procedures, and database monitoring using Perl scripts, PL/SQL, SQL, and the OEM console.
• I acted as a consultant for the development teams on several projects before implementation in test and production, and I made recommendations on Oracle 10g R2 new features.
• I developed different PL/SQL programs for data loading, extraction, and processing, also wrote different kind of programs in Perl and Korn-Shell linked to the database management.
• As Oracle Architect, I was involved in different POCs on a Data Warehouse environment, such as Change Data Capture, partitioning, transportable tablespaces, and partition exchange loading with oracle 10g R2 in collaboration with a consultant from Oracle.
